Kuami Eugene: Ghanaian Music Star Involved In Ghastly Car Accident

Celebrated Ghanaian musician, Kuami Eugene, was involved in a ghastly car accident on March 17, 2024. Photos of his mangled Range Rover Velar are littered all over social media. The cause of the accident is unknown, but according to some accounts, the performer is doing well.

A news editor for media publication Modern Ghana, who claimed to be at the scene reported that Kuami Eugene was behind the wheel when the accident occurred at Achimota, Accra.

How Kuami Eugene’s Accident Happened

On Sunday, March 17, Kuami Eugene reportedly collided with a tipper truck. Unverified reports stated that though the young singer’s car was significantly damaged in the collision, he is in good health.

According to the accounts, it happened on Sunday night at approximately 11:30 p.m., and the editor from Modern Ghana who was present at the scene hurried to save the singer.

The editor added that Kuami Eugene had broken his wrist and sustained a deep cut on his right hand as a result of the accident.

Failatu Abdul-Razak: Ghanaian Chef Fails Guinness World Records Attempt

Guinness World Records has rejected the attempt by Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul-Razak to break the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, according to her team.

The celebrated chef seemed to have shattered the world record in January after cooking continuously for more than 227 hours.

Her attempt to break the record “unfortunately fell short of meeting the stringent guidelines set forth by Guinness World Records,” according to Kafui Dey, the coordinator of the challenge.

A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt.

The attempt by Ms. Abdul-Razak created a lot of enthusiasm in Ghana. Throughout the cook-a-thon, several celebrities, politicians, Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, and even the Ghanaian military supported her.

Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak acknowledged her followers despite her unsuccessful effort, stating that their “backing has been instrumental throughout this journey”.

Meet The Burkina Faso Doctor On The Frontlines Fighting Jihadists

Anaesthetist Arouna Louré was made to fight on the front lines against jihadists wreaking havoc in Burkina Faso, a move that was widely perceived as retaliation for his outspoken criticism of the country’s military leadership.

Dr. Louré claimed that as armed troops unexpectedly broke through the door, he and his patients were in the operating room of the hospital where he works in the capital, Ouagadougou.

“They made me understand they could make me leave using the gentle or the violent method,” the doctor told the BBC. “Another doctor replaced me [in the theatre] and then we left,” Dr Louré added.

The military loaded him into a vehicle and drove him hundreds of miles away to a military training camp. He is only one of several males who were coerced into becoming members of a group known as the Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP).

The group was established by Captain Ibrahim Traore’s junta to recruit 50,000 soldiers to support the army’s endeavours to reclaim territory from jihadists who, according to the Africa Center for Strategic Studies of the US Department of Defense, have “moved to encircle Ouagadougou leaving a trail of unprecedented violence in their wake”.

Capt. Traoré has defended his action to conscript individuals, stating that “a nation is not built on indiscipline and disorder” and “individual freedoms [are] not superior to national freedom”.

He severed Burkina Faso’s longstanding links to the old colonial power, France, and turned the country towards Russia. The French military facility in the nation has been closed and French diplomats have been expelled by the junta.

Concurrently, Russia is assisting its army in enhancing its capabilities and has reopened its embassy in Burkina Faso, which was closed more than 30 years ago.

Unverified sources say that about one hundred Russian troops have already entered the country, notwithstanding Capt. Traoré’s statement last week that Russian forces will join the fight against the jihadists if necessary.

Okafor’s Law: Understanding The Complexity Of Human Relationships

Okafor’s Law is a concept that originated from Nigerian filmmaker and director, Omoni Oboli’s 2016 romantic comedy film.

The law posits that “once a man has had a woman, he can have her again at any time he wishes, regardless of any intervening circumstances.”

This provocative statement has sparked numerous discussions and debates about human behaviour, relationships, and the nature of desire.

The title of the film and the concept it explores are attributed to a character named Chuks Okafor, played by actor Blossom Chukwujekwu. In the movie, Chuks claims to have discovered this law during his university days and even wrote a thesis.

The plot revolves around three childhood friends: Chuks, played by Chukwujekwu, Chuks’ former lover Ejiro, played by Ufuoma McDermott, and another friend, Ify, played by Omoni Oboli herself.

The storyline follows Chuks as he bets his friends that he can seduce Ejiro again, despite her being engaged to another man.

This leads to a series of comedic and dramatic events that explore the complexities of relationships, fidelity, and the power dynamics between men and women.

While the film itself is a work of fiction and entertainment, the concept of Okafor’s Law raises interesting questions about human psychology and behaviour. It touches on themes such as the persistence of desire, the influence of past experiences on present actions, and the dynamics of power in relationships.

One interpretation of Okafor’s Law is that it reflects a cynical view of human nature, suggesting that individuals are driven primarily by their desires and are willing to manipulate or disregard ethical considerations in pursuit of their goals. From this perspective, the law implies a sense of certainty and determinism in human relationships, reducing them to mere transactions driven by primal instincts.

However, another interpretation acknowledges the complexity of human relationships and the role of individual agency and morality. While past experiences and attractions may influence future behaviour to some extent, humans are capable of growth, change, and self-reflection.

Moreover, the concept of Okafor’s Law raises important ethical questions about consent, respect, and the boundaries of personal relationships.

If someone believes they have a right to another person based solely on past experiences, it disregards the autonomy and agency of the other individual. It also perpetuates harmful stereotypes about gender roles and power dynamics in relationships.

Overall, Okafor’s Law is a thought-provoking concept that has sparked discussions about human nature, relationships, and societal norms. While its validity may be debated, its exploration in Omoni Oboli’s film offers valuable insights into the complexities of human behaviour and the dynamics of interpersonal relationships.

Pelumi Nubi: Nigerian Content Creator Attempts Car Drive From London To Lagos

Pelumi Nubi, a Nigerian travel content creator, is embarking on a trip today to drive the more than 7,000 kilometres (4,340 miles) between London and Lagos.

Ms Nubi will travel through France and Spain from England to reach Morocco, which is the entry point into Africa. The enthusiastic content creator says she is embarking on this challenge to push the boundaries of what’s possible and to inspire other black women and other female travellers who are travelling alone.

“But hey, this isn’t about breaking records. It’s about showing the world that ‘impossible’ is just a word,” she said when she first announced the challenge last November.

Pelumi Nubi stated last week that she needed a year to prepare and save for the trip. She is a seasoned traveller who has been to 80 nations. She frequently uses her social media accounts to highlight her trip experiences.

How Pelumi Nubi will undertake the trip

In two months, Pelumi intends to travel across 17 nations, stopping at every city and scenery along the route. She will leave England and travel across Morocco, France, Spain, and the huge West Sahara Desert.

After that, she would pass through Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, and Benin before reaching Lagos.

Arrangements and financing for the journey

The journey is scheduled to start on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, and be completed at the end of March.

The budget for the trip was referred to by the 29-year-old traveller as “a big investment after a year of planning and saving.” Nubi disclosed in her podcast interview that the whole cost of the journey, including lodging, petrol, and other necessities, will be between $15,000 and $20,000.

She added, “Truthfully, you’re never 100% ready for something this massive. My approach? Set a date, and just go for it. Some days I am filled with so much excitement other days not so much!”

Kabir Abu Bilal: Meet The Nigerian Professor Who Makes More Money Welding

Nigerian university lecturer Kabir Abu Bilal has taken on a second job as a welder to earn more cash. In Nigeria, welding is often viewed as a lowly occupation, so when he opened up his welding workshop, it surprised many people, particularly his coworkers.

He told the BBC, “I am not ashamed that, despite being a professor, I work as a welder.” “I make more money from welding.”

At the largest and most esteemed university in Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello University, the 50-year-old mentors and instructs research students in the engineering faculty. He has written many electrical engineering and physics publications over his eighteen years of employment at the University.

Prof. Yusuf Jubril, a fellow professor, clarifies that their colleagues find it peculiar, saying, “Society makes us think someone is too big for certain roles and it’s not true. “What he is doing is not humiliating but commendable, and I hope others learn from him.”

How Professor Kabir Abu Bilal Got Into The Welding Business

Professor Kabir Abu Bilal established a little workshop in Zaria, northern Nigeria some twenty years ago. After receiving a promotion to professor in 2022, he relocated to a larger space because there was a lot of business in the university town.

Customers were requesting him to construct items like metal doors and window frames, which allowed him to purchase additional equipment and embark on larger projects.

“I collect the job no matter how small it is, even if it is one door I will weld it happily to get paid,” he states.

The professor claims that his interest in disassembling and reassembling electronics, such as radios, dates back to his early childhood and is what inspired him to pursue this line of work.

The workshop has not only fulfilled his desire to work with his hands, but it has also been very beneficial to him financially. Prof. Abu Bilal claims that working as a welder has made him more independent; he was even able to purchase a Mercedes.

He has even helped others who disapproved of his joint career during tougher times.

“When university lecturers went on strike for eight months in 2022 and we weren’t paid, I always had money because of this job and a few colleagues came to me for help.”

Professor Abu Bilal wants to encourage others to pursue careers similar to his own.

UK To Loan Back Ghana’s Looted Gold Jewels

The UK is returning some of Ghana’s “crown jewels” after looting them from the Asante king’s court some 150 years ago. According to the BBC, a gold peace pipe is among the 32 objects to be returned under long-term loan agreements.

The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) is lending 17 pieces and the remaining 15 are from the British Museum. The head negotiator for Ghana expressed his expectation for “a new sense of cultural co-operation” following centuries of hostility.

Loan agreements like this one are viewed as enabling artefacts to return to their countries of origin because many national institutions in the UK, such as the V&A and the British Museum, are legally prohibited from permanently returning contended items in their collections.

However, some nations claiming possession of contested artefacts worry such loans may be seen as an endorsement of UK ownership. Tristram Hunt, director of the V&A, claimed that the gold pieces are comparable to the UK’s Crown Jewels.

Among the objects to be loaned include gold badges worn by officials tasked with purging the king’s soul and a sword of state; the majority were captured during the Asante-British wars in the 19th century.

The current Asante king, Otumfo Osei Tutu II, also known as the Asantehene, who attended the coronation of King Charles last year, is the beneficiary of the three-year loan arrangements, which have the potential to be extended for an additional three years.

Despite the Asantehene’s realm being a part of Ghana’s contemporary democracy, he continues to play a significant ceremonial role. 

To commemorate the Asantehene’s silver jubilee, the objects will be on exhibit in the Manhyia Palace Museum in Kumasi, the Asante region’s capital.

The Asante gold artefacts, which are thought to be endowed with the spirits of prior Asante kings, are the ultimate representation of the Asante royal administration.

The majority of the objects the V&A is returning were acquired at an auction held by Garrards, the London jewellers who look after the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom, on April 18, 1874.

These consist of three hefty cast-gold objects called “soul washers’ badges” (Akrafokonmu), which were worn around the necks of eminent court officials who were in charge of purifying the king’s soul.

The Founder of Chess in Slums, Tunde Onakoya, brought honour to his nation Nigeria when he successfully played a game of chess against ten players simultaneously in Germany and won every game.

The chess maestro moved about against all the participants in a lively chess encounter that lasted around two hours, winning against all of them.

After the fierce fight, Tunde Onakoya announced his win on the X platform, making his people pleased. His foundation’s goal was to gather cash for one hundred children. His post on X read:

“On day two of the DLD conference, I played a simultaneous chess match against 10 players at once. After an almost two-hour battle of wits, I managed to win all the games. The Chess exhibition helped us raise enough money to support the education of 100 children in our academy.”

Tunde Onakoya, who is also a renowned coach and a featured speaker at the prestigious Digital Life Design (DLD) event used the chance to discuss his revolutionary project, Chess in Slums.

Meet 15-Year-Old Ghanaian Sports Journalist Covering AFCON

A 15-year-old Ghanaian wonderkid has gone viral following confirmation that he is in Côte d’Ivoire documenting the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition.

In an interview with Saddick Adams, Mohammed Saeed Abdullai, who wants to become a sports writer, said he gets inspiration from well-known sports journalist King Eben, based in Kumasi, Ghana, who works for Wontumi Radio.

The young journalist clarified that he started the trip to cover the AFCON by taking advantage of the break from his school.

When asked about the difficulties he had encountered thus far, Mohammed Saeed replied that gaining entry to some locations was frequently problematic in addition to the language barrier since the Ivorian authorities did not readily accept that he was authorised to cover the competition.

He also discussed the Ghana Black Stars’ performance and offered his thoughts on the team’s difficulties.
