Brenda Katwesigye: Ugandan Woman Invents A Life Saving Medical App

Ugandan woman Brenda Katwesigye is the brilliant mind behind the mobile app “InstaHealth,” a lifesaving innovation that connects users to healthcare services with a simple tap on their mobile phones.
The Inspiration Behind Brenda Katwesigye’s Life-Saving Medical App
Brenda Katwesigye’s journey to creating InstaHealth began while she was a university student. During her studies, she embarked on a medical project that would change her life forever.
It was not just academic research; it became a firsthand lesson in the limited access Ugandans had to healthcare and the exorbitant costs associated with it.
One pivotal moment during her research left a lasting impression on Katwesigye. She found herself in a remote village, 310 miles away from a major city, when she fell ill.
At that moment, she had no idea where to turn for medical assistance. It was this personal experience that ignited the spark for InstaHealth.
What Is Instahealth All About?
Over 40 per cent of Ugandans are connected to mobile internet, making it a valuable platform for her innovative idea.
InstaHealth is a mobile app that acts as a lifeline, instantly connecting users to health centres, medical specialists, and even ambulance services.
Moreover, it allows users to share their healthcare experiences with millions of people, fostering a sense of community and support.
Brenda Katwesigye’s Dreams For Instahealth
Brenda Katwesigye’s dreams for InstaHealth extend beyond its current capabilities.
She envisions tailoring the app for healthcare professionals like doctors and nurses while ensuring it remains accessible and meaningful to the masses.
Her goal is to bridge the gap between technology and healthcare in Uganda.
However, every journey has its challenges. Katwesigye identifies “scope creep” as one of her biggest hurdles.
Initially, the project started with a simple idea, but it has since expanded into a multifaceted platform with multiple modules.
Learning from their mistakes, Katwesigye and her team decided to focus on one module at a time, starting with the doctor consultation platform.

This passion becomes a driving force when exhaustion sets in and the desire to give up looms.
