The Kaypee Motor, Tanzania’s pioneering electric vehicle, has garnered attention for its environmentally friendly design.
Crafted from locally sourced materials, this electric car is a testament to Kipanya’s commitment to sustainability. It requires six hours of charging to cover a distance of 50 to 60 kilometres, offering a promising solution to eco-conscious commuters.
Inspiration Behind the Invention
Kipanya’s journey into electric vehicle innovation was fueled by his love for invention and admiration for those who create from scratch.
Despite studying fine arts at the university, he believes that diversification is crucial for survival in Africa. He stated: “Humans, especially Africans, use very little of their capacity. I believe I can do more than what I have so far done.”
Challenges Faced During The Invention
Undoubtedly, Masoud Kipanya faced challenges on his unconventional path. Despite lacking engineering and car-building knowledge, his passion and determination overcame these hurdles.
Notably, not everyone around him shared the dream. Masoud Kipanya revealed, “Most of my workers did not believe in what I was planning to achieve.” However, he pressed on, using his own funds, investing almost $50,000 into the project.
Seeking Partnerships for Mass Production, Government Support and Certification
While Kipanya’s electric vehicle has sparked interest, he acknowledges the need for partnerships to move towards mass production.
Financial backing has been elusive so far, but he remains optimistic. Masoud Kipanya expressed interest in collaborating with established companies like China’s BYD Auto, citing their expertise in clean energy technology.
The Tanzanian government has been supportive, with the Tanzania Bureau of Standards inspecting and soon certifying the Kaypee Motor.
Kipanya’s Message to Young Entrepreneurs
In a message to aspiring entrepreneurs, Kipanya emphasises resilience in the face of scepticism. He acknowledges the prevalence of dream killers in the world but urges young minds not to let negativity break their resolve.
“Do not listen to negativity. Keep focusing on your dream… If Kipanya can do it, you can do it.” He said
