Over 300 Illegal Miners Trapped in AngloGold Ashanti Mine

According to reports, over 300 illegal miners are believed to be stuck in one of the shafts at Anwiam in the Obuasi East District of the Ashanti Region’s Obuasi Mines owned by AngloGold in Ghana.
It is believed that the miners went into the underground shaft in quest of gold reserves, but when all exits were blocked, they were unable to leave.
Ali Tijani, one of the illegal miners, said in an interview that several of his coworkers are unconscious because they are out of food and water.
He said that they have contacted their families and are requesting help from the authorities to escape the pit.
“We went to work at the AngloGold mine, but it was closed. We have just been there for the past four days. We lack both food and water.
They also do not want to provide us with water. We number around 300. We travelled there by ourselves. We need assistance from the DCE. We go there to mine because we don’t have any employment and need to support our family and ourselves,” he stated.
